A genital vagina wart and ASCUS are caused by different strains of HPV.

Sometimes a biopsy or a small piece of tissue is taken to confirm dysplasia. With a pap smear that shows repeated changes in the virus or at any time shows dysplasia a further examination called a colposcopy will be recommended.
