HPV is spread by skin-to-skin contact. An infected penis rubbing on the outside or your vaginal area or anus, fingers or toys can spread the virus to you. Condoms don't cover the base of the shaft, scrotum or pubic hair where the virus can reside and be transmitted.

Once you've had warts, you may never be rid of the virus. Thus, most recurrences are the result of the virus that your body never built immunities to suddenly becoming active again.
