To be rid of warts does not mean the virus is gone and lichen sclerosus may appear along with vaginal wart because of a weakened immune system.
There is no ideal remedy. Treatment measures are: benign neglect (not recommended for extensive and spreading disease), topical agents (salicylic acid, cantharidin, podophyllin, imiquimod, cidofovir, podophyllotoxin, and tretinoin), intralesional injections (bleomycin, interferon alpha), systemic agents (cimetidine and retinoids), and alternative treatments.

The condition is usually caused by human papilloma viruses. Infection affects the skin and mucous membranes; it can occur in any age, but increases at 12-16 years. The disease is asymptomatic, but may cause cosmetic disfigurement and tenderness. Malignant change is rare.
